HBP nominated for German Sustainability Award
Teufen AR - The start-up High Performance Battery (HPB) has been included in the list of nominees for the German Sustainability Award 2022. The winner of the Resources transformation category is to be selected from a total of 13 companies. HPB develops long-lasting solid-state batteries without the use of critical raw materials.
High Performance Battery (HBP) has been nominated for the German Sustainability Award 2022, as the start-up based in Teufen in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden announced on Monday. According to the press release, the nomination serves as recognition for its green solid-state batteries of practically "infinite service life" that offer a "50 percent improvement in the environmental balance". Moreover, this form of green battery storage contains no critical raw materials such as cobalt. In this way, the company has found a solution to the problem of battery aging as a result of diminished chemical processes. Ultimately, this means that HBP is no longer forced to produce oversized batteries to prevent aging effects.
The German Sustainability Award is presented by the eponymous foundation based in Düsseldorf. With five competitions, more than 800 applicants and around 2,000 guests at the award ceremony, it is the largest prize of its kind in Europe. It is awarded jointly with the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. This 14th edition also places the spotlight on particularly sustainable companies that are breaking new ground. HBP has been nominated alongside twelve other companies in the Resources transformation category.
"We absolutely expect that other countries, especially the EU, will impose punitive CO2 tariffs in the future", comments Thomas Lützenrath, Chief Operating Officer of HBP. "By the same token, many companies are already demanding certified CO2 neutrality from their suppliers. We are therefore pleased to be able to make an important contribution to the competitiveness of Switzerland as a business location". In addition, the green solid-state batteries support the storage of renewable energies and help to manage peak loads.
